Huawei AX3 WIFI 6 Review

The Huawei WIFI AX3 is a dualcore WIFI 6 plus home network router. It is a standard router most ISP’s give to their customers when registering for Fiber. So one good thing with this is that it is not a terrible router – it is cheap, but it is pretty decent.

The router has WIFI 6 built in and it has several improvements over WIFI 5.

  • x3 Faster speed (up to 1.2 gb/s)
  • x4 Larger capacity (up to 128 devices)
  • 2/3 Lower latency (up to 10 milliseconds)
  • 30% Reduced power consumption

AX3 and WIFI 6 enabled Huawei phones are the perfect pair because both are equipped with Huawei’s self-developed WIFI chip, which supports 160 megahertz frequency bandwidth which brings out the optimal speed and efficiency.

Another thing with the router is that the signal can go through more than one wall with the Huawei WIFI 6. WIFI 6 enabled phones are able to send 6 decibels stronger signal back to the AX3 in a stable 2 megahertz narrow bandwidth. This means that your phone will have better reception with the WIFI signal even when connecting from somewhere far away from the router.

You’ll be impressed with the blazing fast speeds delivered by the AX3, thanks to the 1024 QAM and 160 megahertz frequency bandwidth. This theoretical speed can reach up to 3000 megabits per second. 574 on the 2.4 gigahertz bandwidth and 2402 on the 5 gigahertz bandwidth.

You can connect a multitude of devices to the AX3 and it is capable of sending data to multiple devices simultaneously. Up to a maximum of 4 devices on 2.4 gigahertz and up to 16 devices on the 5 gigahertz bandwidth.

The AX3 supports multi-router mesh networking, which enables a greater WIFI coverage. It also supports wireless networking, cable networking, as well as hybrid networking of wireless and cable networking. After networking multiple routers are automatically grouped under one WIFI name and the optimal WIFI connection is automatically selected based on your device’s location.

Product Features

  • Gigahome dual core 1.2 gigahertz CPU
  • 4 external antennas for improved coverage and reception
  • 4 gigabit ethernet ports
  • A gigabit WAN port

Price and purchase information

The AX3 router retails for around R1199 on takealot and R1000 from other retailors.

Personal opinions

The router has a very sleek design and a minimal impact on its overall design. The one thing, with all the antennas at the back, it results in very poor overall coverage.

Pros and Cons

ProsCons
CostPoor design and distribution of antennas and ethernet ports
Decent coverage for entry level router
128 device port

This router takes basic user experience to the next level. It is a nice thing that most ISP’s are giving out this router as their free router when you sign up for fiber.
