Most phones promise to last all day. The vivo V80 Lite 5G sets out to last your day and the one after it. Announced in South Africa on 1 October 2026, it is the first V-series phone from vivo with a 10,000 mAh battery, and it arrives with an IP68 and IP69 rating, a 120 Hz OLED screen and a price R11,999. We spent a full working day with it to see whether the numbers on the box survive a busy schedule.

If you spend your day on calls, navigation, hotspot sessions and long stretches away from a socket, the V80 Lite 5G is one of the most practical phones at its price. If you want a lightweight phone, a flagship camera system or top-end gaming performance, it is not that phone.

Design and build

The V80 Lite 5G has rounded corners, 1.35 mm bezels and a 94.47% screen-to-body ratio, with a “Floating Crystal” camera module. For South Africa, vivo lists Pearl White and Dawn Black, and both have textured finishes. The back is a plastic composite rather than glass, which helps with the drop claims but may feel less premium to some people. At 224 g it is heavy for its size, which is the unavoidable price of the battery.

Battery: the whole point

The V80 Lite 5G packs a 10,000 mAh typical battery (9,800 mAh rated), using 4th-generation silicon anode technology and Cube Packaging 2.0 to fit it into an 8.6 mm body. vivo says that is 54% more capacity than the V60 Lite 5G (6,500 mAh).

vivo’s lab claims: 33% left after a 12-hour mixed workday, about 68 hours of calls, 30 hours of binge-watching, 30 hours of short-video playback, 14 hours of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and eight hours of hotspot use for 14% of the battery.

My day with it: I unplugged at 100% at 06:30. By 21:30 I was at 74% with 5.4 hours of screen-on time, after calls, emails doom scrolling Tiktok and music with navigation, . That compares with vivo’s claim of 33% left after twelve hours.

Charging: 44W charging is on the modest side for a battery this large. The phone can also reverse-charge other devices over USB-C, and vivo claims it can deliver up to 7,135 mAh to another device or around eleven earbud charges.

Battery health and extras: vivo claims at least 80% battery health after 1,400 charge cycles (roughly seven years of use by its own calculation), supported by six layers of protection including overnight charging protection, a custom charging limit and bypass charging. At 1% battery, Battery Life Extender is designed to keep emergency calls available for up to four minutes, and Super Battery Saver stretches the last 10% for roughly four hours of talk time or 45 hours of standby, according to vivo.

Temperature: the phone is rated to operate between –30°C and 45°C, and vivo’s 3,800 mm² vapor chamber (250% bigger than the V60 Lite’s) is meant to keep it cool during navigation, video and charging.

Built to be used outdoors

This is a phone for people who do not baby their gear. It is rated IP68 and IP69 and has been tested against five MIL-STD-810H conditions (high temperature, low temperature, rain, sand and dust, and shock). vivo’s claims include a three-metre drop onto carpet, one-metre drops onto other surfaces, 24 hours of heavy rain, a washing-machine cycle and protection against 22 everyday liquids, plus 2,500 steel-wool scratch cycles and IP6X dust resistance. The touchscreen is also meant to respond with wet or greasy fingers.

Two cautions: these are laboratory results and resistance can decrease over time, and vivo says liquid damage and deliberate drops are not covered by the warranty. After a splash, liquid can sit in the speaker and microphone openings, so rinse, shake and let it dry before charging.

Display and sound

The 6.83-inch AMOLED panel is the best part of the experience after the battery. It reaches 2,000 nits in high brightness mode, carries SGS Five-Star Sunlight-Readable certification, supports HDR10+ and Netflix HDR, and runs up to 120 Hz in supported apps. It also has SGS low-blue-light and low-flicker certifications. vivo says the phone has dual stereo speakers with a VEQ algorithm for stronger bass.

Performance

The Dimensity 7300e, The device is optimized for power efficiency and stable field performance it a mid-range processor, so expect smooth everyday use but not flagship gaming. vivo’s own benchmark claim (up to 940,000 on AnTuTu) was measured on an 8 GB + 256 GB configuration, while South Africa lists 6 GB.

Cameras

A 50 MP Sony IMX852 main camera does the heavy lifting, supported by a 2 MP depth sensor that adds little. There is no ultra-wide or telephoto lens. The 32 MP selfie camera has a 90° field of view, aimed at group selfies with less stretching. On the 6 GB model, vivo says 1080p 60 fps video and dual-view video are not available. Useful extras include the Check-in watermark (stamps time and location on photos for site visits and travel) and AI Erase (removes bystanders and reflections, requires an internet connection).

Software: OriginOS 6

OriginOS 6 runs on Android 16 and comes with three major OS updates and five years of security updates. Highlights are Origin Island (live navigation and music updates with Drag & Go and Copy & Go), vivo Office Kit (file transfer, screen mirroring, task handoff, notes sync and a shared clipboard with Windows and Mac), Google Gemini Live, AI Creation, AI Captions, call transcription and translation, Private Space for sensitive apps and files, and One-Tap Transfer with iPhone. vivo says the AI features are free in the current region but may require payment later, and that it would notify you first. vivo’s South African page also lists a 100 GB Google One offer for six months, with terms.

Connectivity

The phone supports dual 5G SIMs with eSIM, Wi-Fi on both bands, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC for payments and USB-C. The port is USB 2.0, so cable transfers are slow, and there is no FM radio. vivo claims its dual low-frequency antenna design boosts weak-signal performance by 81%
