Introducing the New LG SolarDOM™: One Appliance. Endless Possibilities
Microwave. Oven. Grill. Air Fry. Steam. All-in-one.
Somewhere in the average South African kitchen, an air fryer, oven, and a microwave are doing jobs that a single appliance can now do at the same time, on the same countertop, with way less electricity usage. LG’s answer to that redundancy is the new SolarDOM™, and it isn’t especially concerned about hurting anyone’s feelings.
LG Electronics South Africa has launched the new 38L SolarDOM™, the first major overhaul of the line in more than a decade and the first version to add a dedicated Air Fry mode. It joins microwave, grill, oven, steam and defrost functions in one 38-litre cavity, run through LG’s Charcoal Lighting Grill and a top-and-bottom dual heater system to deliver evenly crisp, golden results on both sides with no flipping required.
“We didn’t build this to win an argument against an existing air fryer,” says Carol Guedes, CE Head of Sales at LG Electronics South Africa. “It exists to make the case for not needing one in the first place, and everything else that’s crowding the counter alongside it.”
What one appliance can now do
The Charcoal Lighting Grill uses infrared heat rather than a conventional element, which LG says cuts cooking time by 30% and energy use by 40% compared with its earlier sheath-heater models – a meaningful jump from the roughly 20% energy saving claimed on the outgoing SolarDOM™. The Air Fry mode uses that same heat system to crisp food with little to no added oil, while the top and bottom dual heaters mean a roast chicken or tray of vegetables cooks from both directions simultaneously, instead of needing a manual turn partway through. LG’s signature round cavity carries over from the previous generation, distributing heat evenly and removing the corners where food typically catches or burns.
Fifty-seven ways to avoid reading a recipe
The new SolarDOM™ connects to the LG ThinQ™ app and includes 57 automatic cooking programmes, covering everything from a weekday defrost to a Sunday roast, without the user needing to set time, temperature or mode manually.
The new LG SolarDOM™ will be available through LG.com/za and selected retailers.
