Hisense SA and The Dis-Chem Foundation continue to champion dignity and care through their ongoing Loads of Love campaign, this time supporting South Africa’s only Pride Shelter, based in Cape Town. The organisations officially handed over a Hisense top-loader washing machine and a monthly Dis-Chem store credit, to assist the shelter in providing a clean, safe, and supportive environment for its residents.
The donation included Hisense’s 18kg Tide 5 Smart Top Loader Washing Machine: a robust, high-capacity solution well-suited to the Shelter’s daily laundry needs. To date, the Hisense Loads of Love initiative has donated over 300 machines nationwide. While the initiative has primarily focused on the Western Cape so far, the next rollout will extend to KwaZulu-Natal, and Gauteng, in coming months.
“We’re incredibly proud to continue our partnership with The Dis-Chem Foundation in bringing practical, life-improving technology to organisations like the Pride Shelter,” said Alex Chen, Brand Marketing Manager of Hisense SA. “Over the next few weeks, we’ll be donating even more washing machines and tumble dryers to other community-driven organisations and non-profit beneficiaries of The Dis-Chem Foundation across the country, helping more centres like this one deliver on their mission of care.”
By providing the Shelter with a reliable, high-capacity washing machine, there is a significant decrease in the time, cost, and manual labour previously required for daily laundry needs. This operational relief means that staff and volunteers can redirect both time and financial resources toward critical services like case management and counselling for vulnerable members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
“The Pride Shelter is doing incredible work in Cape Town, and we are grateful to be able to support their efforts,” said Jacqueline Kahlberg, spokesperson for The Dis-Chem Foundation. “We are deeply passionate about dignity and well-being. The Shelter’s focus on safe accommodation, care and support resonates powerfully with our purpose, and mission to end any form of gender-based violence in South Africa.”
