[Johannesburg, South Africa – 16 April 2026] The HONOR 600 Lite has just been launched in Mzansi, bringing together cutting-edge AI-powered photography, long-lasting battery life and a sleek, premium Metal-forged Unibody design. It’s incredibly immersive display, encased in a metallic mystique, feels and responds like its playing to win, sharing the country’s no-compromising attitude.

Unveiled earlier today, SA’s trendsetting, media and influencer communities, embraced every deftly designed element of the event, each anchored in the star of the show’s Sprout Green pantone theme, revealing HONOR 600 Lite’s premium, fashion-forward authenticity. It was a movement, literally a launch that echoed the device’s leaner, lighter natural rhythm, on a stage built to make a statement. Guests including William KRM, Ashley Ogle, DJ Tira, Liema, Lindough, and Ronwen Williams experienced the device in motion, from courtside moments to social interactions, reflecting a smartphone designed to be used, not demonstrated. With YFMbroadcasting live on The Home Run with Ayanda MVP, the mood mirrored the phone, a lightweight feel with a powerful presence.

At the centre of the HONOR 600 Lite’s immediate appeal is an upgraded 108MP ultra-clear camera system, evolving from the 2025 HONOR 400 lite, designed to deliver even sharper detail, improved clarity and more reliable results across different environments. Paired with the popular AI Camera Button, the HONOR 600 lite responds intuitively to an era where South Africans want to experiment and explore with this rapidly developing technology. In this slim and strong innovation, you can capture moments as they happen, with smooth zoom control and intuitive handling. AI tools such as AI Eraser and AI Outpainting are set to impress even more, by simplifying the editing process, removing distractions and refining images in seconds. Nothing interrupts the professional flow of an artist’s vision as AI is briefed one step ahead, to find ways to elevate the tiniest of details.

Power That Moves With You

Built for full days that rarely slow down, the HONOR 600 Lite features a 6520mAh battery supported by 45W HONOR SuperCharge. Content, streaming or sharing, the device keeps pace throughout the day, with ease. Its six-year battery durability puts the attention back on the confidence that performance will hold up over time, far more than expected. Iin Mzansi, reliability matters as much as innovation, so this becomes a feature that quietly makes a difference.

Slim Design, Serious Strength

The HONOR 600 Lite made a stylish entrance, refined, an ultra-slim profile with a metal forged-unibody frame that is strengthened in all the places it feels super-light. Even peace of mind is built in with structural strength and a stress-saving 1.8m drop resistance. Performing beyond its category, it protects even more with a SGS Premium Performance Certification of Drop & Crush Resistance – a first-in-class durability rating in its segment. Form and function wrapped in value is a gift right now. The 6.6-inch full-view display, framed by ultra-narrow bezels, delivers an immersive viewing experience with strong outdoor visibility, making it equally suited to capturing content and enjoying it.

“The HONOR 600 Lite reflects what matters most to people across Mzansi, a future-forward designed experience, that performs as impressively as the first impression it makes,” said Fred Zhou, CEO of HONOR South Africa, “We’re seeing real interest in AI, especially around the camera. So we focused on making it accessible, something people can explore without overthinking it, with a battery that keeps up while they find what works for them. It is the feature we need in our everyday life, personified by a premium metal-forged unibody design.”

While laws develop, South Africa’s online betting regulators and operators are turning to tech for unity

Rather than merely waiting for the slower pace of legislative alignment across provinces, the online betting industry is looking toward “technical harmonisation” as a precursor to legal change. In this scenario, technology serves as the bridge that allows both sides to meet in the middle. While the global iGaming landscape often struggles with fragmented rules that polarise stakeholders, there’s a unique trend in the South African market which a recent survey at the 2026 SiGMA Africa iGaming conference at GrandWest casino found: a shared desire for technical harmonisation across industry players and regulators alike.

According to the SOFTSWISS SiGMA Africa 2026 Survey, which gathered insights from 99 iGaming industry decision-makers, partners and regulators, the local sector assigns an overall average score of 6,02 out of 10 to the current legal environment. Regulators themselves, responding to the survey, rated current regulations on average 6,86 out of 10 – just 0,9 points more than the average score given by online betting operators.

Regulators are currently working on updating laws to adapt to the newly dominant role of online betting as the biggest part of the gambling industry, but besides the national regulators, each provincial body also operates independently to do this work. Regulations take time to be drafted, though, but officials and industry players alike have a shared vision of reaching better harmonisation even while new regulations are still being developed.

Africa’s lead on harmonisation

One of the most intriguing findings of the research is that the South African iGaming industry is engaging in conversations about harmonisation with a level of enthusiasm that has historically eluded more mature markets. One survey respondent from a leading international ethical gambling organisation noted being impressed by how well the local industry is discussing unified standards – a topic that “never took off” in Europe despite many such attempts.

One online betting operator saw the best way to improve current regulations as being rooted in increased collaboration for better overall outcomes for all stakeholders: “We can improve regulations by bringing together the operators, bookmakers and regulatory houses to come up with one strategy that’s going to form better safety for the player, education on responsible gambling, and faster pay-outs.”

The technical bridge to stability

The survey highlights two critical areas where technology and regulatory goals converge: platform stability and player protection. Nearly 45% of respondents identified online betting platform stability and performance as their primary technical concern for 2026, while 37% now view responsible gaming (RG) tooling as a core technical requirement rather than just a compliance hurdle.

“While formal legislative changes are inherently thorough and time-consuming processes, technology can act as an immediate bridge,” notes Mariia Halaida, head of business development at SOFTSWISS. “By adopting unified technical standards for Know Your Customer (KYC) protocols and real-time responsible gambling monitoring, organisations can proactively support regulatory objectives before they are eventually and officially written into law.”

This shift moves technology from being a mere operational tool to a strategic instrument for industry maturity. When organisations prioritise high-performance systems that ensure 100% uptime and robust data integrity, they provide regulators with the transparency and reliability needed to foster a world-class ecosystem.

A unified strategy for reputation and responsibility

The research also identifies a disconnect regarding fraud prevention, with some operators feeling that the bulk of the responsibility currently rests on their shoulders. However, the survey suggests a path forward through an “open kitchen” approach to transparency.

Industry participants also argued that responsible gambling should be pushed as a part of their main marketing tools rather than a secondary compliance campaign. A unified, tech-led strategy – such as a shared data exchange for player protection – could ensure that vulnerable individuals are protected across all platforms, effectively removing the silos that currently hinder comprehensive oversight.

Facilitating industry maturity

Ultimately, the goal of technical harmonisation is to create a layer of technology that allows operators and regulators to more easily align on safety and stability, and to do so faster and with more agility. By focusing on shared standards, the industry can move the conversation away from administrative friction and toward a sustainable future.

“The mission is to build a foundation of trust through superior engineering,” Halaida. “When we align our technical standards, we improve our individual organisations and mature the entire South African iGaming landscape for long-term success.”

TCL Unveils 2026 Product Lineup for South Africa, Bringing Revolutionary SQD-Mini LED TV Technology to Local Consumers for the First Time

Johannesburg, 16 April 2026, Global No.1 Mini LED and Ultra Large Screen TV brand (75”+) according to OMDIA 2025, and the No.1 brand locally for Mini LED TV unit sale in H2 2025, TCL continues to push the boundaries of display innovation with the introduction of SQD-Mini LED in South Africa

The launch marks a major milestone for the local market, with TCL becoming the first to introduce SQD-Mini LED technology with full range Audio by Bang & Olufsen in South Africa, a generational leap in display science that promises to set a new benchmark for brightness, contrast, and colour precision. In addition, TCL also unveiled its exciting new range of Google Smart Home air conditioners and home appliances.

A New Standard in Home Entertainment: Meet the C7L and C8L

At the forefront of TCL’s 2026 TV range are the flagship C7L and C8L models, two premium displays that showcase the full potential of SQD-Mini LED technology. Building on the foundation of QD-Mini LED, SQD-Mini LED represents a major leap forward in display innovation. By enhancing the Mini LED backlight, quantum dot layer and panel-level colour filtering, TCL has achieved exceptional gains in brightness, contrast and colour accuracy, delivering a truly immersive, cinema-quality viewing experience.

Unlike RGB Mini LED, which alters the light source itself, SQD-Mini LED uses a refined blue LED backlight paired with newly formulated quantum dots and TCL’s proprietary Ultra Colour Filter. The result is improved colour accuracy, reduced colour crosstalk, and a noticeable boost in overall picture performance.

The TCL C7L is designed to bring flagship performance into more homes, offering exceptional brightness, precise light control and vivid colour reproduction. With thousands of local dimming zones that virtually eliminate “blooming,” the C7L delivers deeper blacks, sharper highlights and impressive clarity across all types of content, from fast-paced sports to high-resolution gaming and cinematic viewing. It also features premium, immersive audio co-developed with Audio By Bang & Olufsen ensuring that sound quality matches its stunning visuals.

Stepping up even further, the TCL C8L takes performance to the next level. With an increased number of dimming zones and enhanced processing capabilities, the C8L delivers even greater precision in light control, improved shadow detail and more refined contrast. Combined with TCL’s advanced panel technology and ultra-wide colour gamut, the result is a display that stays true to the creator’s intent, offering richer, more lifelike visuals at any time of day.

Both models are purpose-built for larger screens, making them ideal centrepieces for modern living rooms, and are engineered to perform exceptionally well in bright environments. For consumers, this translates into brighter images, deeper contrast, and more lifelike colour across everything from sport to gaming and streaming.

Premium Audio by Bang & Olufsen

Across the full C7L and C8L range, TCL has partnered with Audio by Bang & Olufsen to deliver a premium audio experience that complements the advanced display technology. Expertly tuned to provide clear dialogue, rich bass and immersive surround sound, the system is designed to bring greater depth and realism to everything from movies and live sport to gaming. The result is a more complete, cinema-like experience at home, where sound and picture work seamlessly together.

Expanding the Google Smart Home Ecosystem: Connected Aircon & Washing Machine

Beyond home entertainment, TCL is continuing to strengthen its position in the connected home space with the introduction of a new range of smart appliances designed for convenience, efficiency and modern lifestyles.

Leading this category is the new C5 range of washing machines, including the C512WDG and C512FLG models which come equipped with TCL’s Super Drum Technology.

The new C5 range also brings smarter, more connected functionality into the home, with built-in Wi-Fi enabling users to control and monitor their washing machines remotely via the TCL Home app. Both models feature intelligent washing technology that automatically optimises water usage, temperature and cycle time based on the load, ensuring efficient performance without compromising on fabric care. Additional highlights include energy-efficient operation, multiple specialised wash programmes tailored to different fabric types, and a durable, quiet motor designed for long-term reliability, making everyday laundry simpler, smarter and more efficient.

Further expanding its home appliance offering, TCL has also introduced the TCL P774SBGWD 627-litre No Frost Inverter Side By Side Refrigerator with water dispenser and its new FreshIN 3.0 technology across its full range of air conditioning solutions, from connected AC units for the home to its commercial systems. Designed to improve indoor air quality, FreshIN 3.0 actively draws in fresh outdoor air while pushing stale air out through a quadruple filtration system, effectively reducing pollutants, odours and airborne particles. The result is a cleaner, fresher indoor environment, particularly noticeable overnight, so users wake up to healthier, more breathable air.

Driving Innovation and Accessibility in South Africa

With its 2026 line-up, TCL continues to reinforce its commitment to bringing world-class innovation to South African consumers, combining premium technology with competitive pricing to make high-end experiences more accessible.

“South African consumers deserve the very best in picture quality and home technology without the premium price tag. As the first to bring SQD-Mini LED technology to the local market, we are proud to deliver exceptional brightness, cinema-grade colour accuracy, precise light control and immersive audio at prices that make true flagship performance more accessible than ever before,” says Mr Mike Chen, General Manager at TCL South Africa. “With our new range of TVs and connected home appliances, we are focused on delivering smarter, more immersive and more accessible technology that enhances the way people live, connect and experience entertainment at home.”

Comic Con Cape Town has something for everyone, and that includes loads of fun activities for kids – even without the KidsCon Zone. And the great news is that kids five and under get free access. Here are the top kid-friendly things to do at the Western Cape’s largest pop culture and gaming convention.

Dress-Up AKA Cosplay for Kids

Kids can dress-up as their favourite characters, just like the grown-ups do! Cosplay is not only for adults. It’s also for kids – although they may call it dressing-up. Donning the outfit of their favourite superhero character brings great benefits to little ones, as they learn creativity, interact with other kids, act out their characters, and make friends. The moment that cape or mask is on, the confidence kicks in. Who wouldn’t be confident if they knew they were Batman? Kids can also sign up for the daily casual Cosplay competitions which take place on the prestigious Main Stage of Comic Con Cape Town.

Get Gaming with RGB Gaming

RGB Gaming in the Experience Hall upstairs is #WhereGamingAndEducationMeet. RGB Gaming’s mission is to promote sustainable esports in schools by engaging learners in fun competitive games like Minecraft and Fortnite. Participating in esports helps kids to get better at teamwork, and to learn problem-solving and strategic skills. Kids can join in free-to-play tournaments and win awesome prizes each day.

Animation Workshops

Animation workshops are hosted daily by the Cape Town International Animation Fair. Designed for young ones aged 12 to 18, these workshops explore topics such as building 3D gaming worlds, turning drawings into animations, and how to make comics, all explained in easy-to-understand ways. They take place daily from 10h00 to 12h00 and 14h00 to 16h00 in the Experience Hall upstairs.

Play with Solarpop

On the ground floor, Solarpop is bringing back the Scarlet & Violet Academy. In this welcoming area, kids, parents, and newbies can learn the basics of the Pokémon trading card game, taught by experienced trainers who can answer any and all questions. Freak Marble racing will be happening in this area too – there are awesome prizes to be won for the kids whose marbles take poll position.

Toy Shopping

The show floor is full of all sorts of collectibles and toys. Every kid will find something they just have to take home with them. The Build-A-Bear Workshop is around to bring the little ones’ dream teddy bear to life, from stuffing to clothing. Exciting toy shops include Polkadot Pie selling their Doodle Mats, the Snow Aurora shop, and also Takealot will be on the show floor with the latest toys and games. Toy Click on the ground floor has a wide range of Hot Wheels and other toys to take home. Upstairs kids can grab exciting sponge art supplies from Rainbow Art and the coolest new stationery at Deli Stationery, boardgames from Riddle Me This, and more toys from Taco Toys. Sakura has anime-themed toys and gifts, while the Silver Toy Shop sells Pokémon, LEGO and Hot Wheels. All of the FunkoPops await at the Funko store – and of course, the cutest ever Noodle & Bun plushies will be there waiting for a cuddle. Loads of storybooks can be found at Exclusive Books. Exploring the stands and picking a favourite must-have-item is all part of the journey at Comic Con.

Sea Harvest

The Sea Harvest Fish Finger Mealtime Heroes are back! Captain Crisp, Omega Mind, and the Incredible Hake can’t wait to meet everyone, and they’re bringing along some awesome prizes and fun games. These three unconventional heroes are loads of fun – and they’ll be hanging out tasty samples to con-goers too.

Character Meet-and-Greets

Favourite characters come to life at Comic Con Cape Town. Kids can meet well-known, beloved friends in real life that they would normally only see on TV or read about in the pages of their storybooks. The cutest cat and dog duo, Noodle & Bun, and the legendary Minions will be walking the halls of the Con, ready to take photos and give high fives – not to forget all the incredible Cosplayers that fill the halls.

This year Comic Con Cape Town will welcome 36,000 fans to the CTICC 2. It’s a safe, exciting, colourful, and inclusive environment where kids can be themselves.

Selected to Advance to the Next Level of 2026 Solve For Tomorrow Competition

Encouraging Innovative Thinking & Problem Solving for Gen Z to Build Sustainable Solutions through STEM

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – April 2026 – At an event that took place on 14 April 2026, Samsung in partnership with the Department of Basic Education (DBE) officially announced the Top 20 schools that have been selected to advance to the next stages of the 2026 STEM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) – Solve For Tomorrow (SFT) competition

In attendance was Mr. Simon Lee, the President and CEO of Samsung Africa with his management team and some of the country’s dignitaries and strategic partners that included Ms Elspeth Khembo, Director for Mathematics, Science and Technology (MST), Curriculum Innovation and E-Learning at the National Department of Basic Education (DBE); as well as Mr. Tlali Tlali, the Director of Corporate Affairs at State Information Technology Agency (SITA).

This announcement marks the end of the initial application phase which ran until 06 March 2026 and Samsung along with its partners were recognising the outstanding contributions that these Top 20 schools have made to the programme; showcasing their achievements and potential impact. This year’s participation has reached new heights, with over 143 submissions from public schools across the country – a remarkable growth from 47 entries last year. This is testament to the unwavering dedication of the country’s educators and learners as well as Samsung’s valued partners: DBE and SITA.

The notable increase in participation can also be credited to the major shift in the application process in this year’s SFT competition, which has now been opened to all public schools, including quintile 5 – making it more inclusive and nationally representative. Now, the competition has reached a stage where it moves beyond theoretical knowledge. It is shifting from mere idea submissions going towards an active, mentored development of the solutions stage that is designed to create a positive social impact in local communities.

This year’s global themes: Social Inclusion through Sports & Technology and Environmental Sustainability via Technology, reflect our shared responsibility to build an equitable, sustainable and inclusive future. These themes whichseek to foster innovation among high school learners from underprivileged backgrounds throughout South Africa – are encouraging critical thinking and problem solving for Gen Z to build sustainable solutions through STEM.

Speaking at the event, the President and CEO of Samsung Africa, Mr. Lee shared his sentiments on the collaborative agreement between Samsung and DBE which has in the last few years – highlighted the direct alignment of the SFT’s objectives to the country’s national education priorities. He added that the recent Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Samsung and DBE has been instrumental in driving this success, anchoring the company’s partnership in strengthening STEM education and equipping learners with critical skills for the digital economy.

And, according to the Director for Mathematics, Science & Technology (MST), Curriculum Innovation & E-Learning at the National Department of Basic Education, Ms. Elspeth Khembo: “By teaching learners to use digital tools, data and technology to develop innovative solutions, this Samsung SFT competition advances the department’s ongoing efforts to strengthen STEM education, expand digital learning opportunities and cultivate future-ready skills among the country’s learners.

Ms. Khembo explained further and said: “All of this is in direct alignment with our national education priorities including fostering 4IR (Fourth Industrial Revolution) skills, critical thinking and equitable access to opportunities in an effort to build a capable, innovation-driven and inclusive economy,”

For these Grade 10 and 11 learners from selected public schools – making it to this stage of the competition is a significant milestone. Advancing to this next phase means that these Top 20 school learners will – through project-based learning – be equipped with the 4Cs which are Creativity, Critical Thinking, Collaboration and Communication. These skills are essential for solving real-world challenges.

The Director at SITA – Corporate Affairs Mr. Tlali Tlali also added: “We’re honoured to be part of this amazing initiative and even prouder of the fact that we’ve been partners with Samsung from inception. It gives us great joy to see the enthusiasm that’s evident in the significant increase in the number of schools from the country’s previously disadvantaged communities, that participate in this unique, global initiative. Our goal of aligning with Samsung’s transformation goals and building a digital South Africa by improving educational and career prospects for our youth, remains intact.”

With the support of mentors, design thinking workshops, prototype funding and tablets for research and project execution, the learners will have the resources to turn their visions into reality. This is complemented by the invaluable contributions from the judges and partners whose expertise and guidance is instrumental in nurturing this year’s young innovators.

Lefa Makgato, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager for Samsung Electronics in South Africa said: “We would like to congratulate the Top 20 schools that made it to the next stage of this competition. As Samsung, we are very happy with the quality of the entries that we received from various schools around the country and are appreciative of the interest and overwhelming participation in this year’s competition. We are also grateful to our partners: DBE and SITA, whose strategic priorities align perfectly with our mission to empower students with skills that transcend the classroom and are able to prepare them for the challenges of tomorrow.”

And when taking a closer look at the themes for this year – the social change through sports and tech theme focuses on how the power of sport as a unifying force in South Africa is recognised. And, when combined with technology – sport becomes a tool for inclusion, youth development, health and community building. This first theme encourages young innovators to use digital platforms, data and smart solutions to improve access to sports, develop talent, promote wellness and create safer, more connected communities. It’s about using technology to amplify the positive social impact of sport beyond the field.

The second theme which focuses on Environmental sustainability through technology addresses the urgent environmental challenges that the country faces, such as climate change, water scarcity, waste management and energy access. This environmentally-focused theme invites young people to develop tech-driven solutions that protect natural resources, promote renewable energy and support sustainable living. It signifies a shift toward responsible innovation using technology not just for convenience, but to secure a healthier, more sustainable future for generations to come.

And furthermore, this year’s announcement places these Top 20 schools in the running to win substantial prizes, including up to R100,000 in STEM equipment for the winning school – with 2nd and 3rd place winning R50,000 and R30,000 respectively; plus Samsung devices for the top learners in the winning schools.

Makgato concluded: “As a pioneer in education and innovation, this SFT programme provides us with an opportunity to reinforce our dedication to nurturing the country’s future problem-solvers. Samsung is resolute in its mission when it comes to its education goals: we remain committed to continue empowering South Africa’s learners to address global challenges through technology and innovation.

(SOUTH AFRICA, 15 April 2026) – Sony is expanding its range of gaming gear with the introduction of two new models – the INZONE H6 Air.

The INZONE H6 Air offers an immersive gaming experience backed by the open-back acoustic structure and the custom drivers. It produces deep and tight bass thanks to the back ducts integrated into the drivers.

INZONE H6 Air – clear, immersive sound that enhances every gaming experience

With an open-back structure the INZONE H6 Air offers a realistic immersive sound field that makes you feel as if you are in the game space. The open-back acoustic design minimises internal reflections by leaving the housing unobstructed. This enables accurate sound field reproduction exactly as intended by game creators, delivering a realistic audio experience that makes you feel truly inside the game world.

The headset features precision-tuned driver units engineered with the same technology as Sony’s renowned MDR-MV1 open-back studio monitor headphones and specially adapted for the INZONE H6 Air. Back ducts integrated into the driver unit help deliver deep and controlled bass reproduction, while maintaining clear separation of mid and low frequencies. This delivers even more immersive audio ideal for games rich in sound detail.

Crafted with premium aluminium, the INZONE H6 Air achieves an incredibly light weight of only 199g (without detachable microphone and cable), making them Sony’s lightest gaming headsets. The INZONE H6 Air uses the same spring hinge headband design seen in the INZONE H9 II, to maintain a compact size whilst not compromising on comfort and stability. This ultra-light body and unique structure of the INZONE H6 Air deliver exceptional comfort, making it perfect for long gaming sessions.

Developed with sound designers from PlayStation Studios at Sony Interactive Entertainment, who produce audio for PlayStation games, Sony has created the “RPG/Adventure” equalizer profile. This profile applies audio processing optimized for RPG and Adventure game titles, recreating the acoustic experience of a sound studio and delivering an overwhelmingly immersive listening experience. This can be accessed by connecting to INZONE Hub via the USB-C Audio Box, which also offers virtual 7.1ch surround sound with 360 Spatial Sound for Gaming.

The INZONE H6 Air also features an adjustable cardioid mic delivering a clear and natural voice. The cardioid boom mic focuses on voice and is angled towards the user’s mouth to eliminate side noise and the long, flexible arm stays where it is set.

Turn Your Room Into a Cinema for Under R3,000 – Acer QH15S Review

It’s not often that a budget tech product genuinely blows your mind, but that’s exactly what happened when we got our hands on the Acer Projector QH15S. If you’ve ever dreamed of turning your bedroom into a home cinema without draining your wallet, this might be the upgrade you’ve been waiting for. Let’s get into why this compact, affordable projector is making such a big impression.

A Budget Projector That Actually Delivers

The Acer Projector QH15S is designed for real people, students, small room setups, first-time home cinema buyers, or anyone who wants a massive screen without spending a fortune. For under R3,000, you’re getting something that rivals (and in some ways beats) entry-level TVs in sheer viewing experience. Instead of a small screen, you’re suddenly working with a cinematic display that can stretch across your wall.

What’s in the Box?

Unboxing is simple and refreshingly no-nonsense. You get:

The projector

Power cable

HDMI cable

Remote control

It’s everything you need to get started right away, no extra purchases required.

Design and Portability

The projector has a clean, compact design with a white finish that fits easily into most setups. It’s light enough to move between rooms, and flexible enough for different placements, desk, wall, or even ceiling projection.

Yes, ceiling projection. Lying in bed and watching your favorite shows projected above you? It sounds like a gimmick until you try it, and then it becomes one of your favorite ways to use it.

Real-World Performance

Using the projector is as simple as plugging it in and powering it on. Setup is quick, and the interface is easy to navigate, even if you’ve never used a projector before.

Where it really shines is:

Movies and series on a massive screen

YouTube streaming with that immersive feel

Casual gaming with a console

Hook up a PlayStation, invite friends over, and suddenly your room feels like a mini cinema or gaming lounge.

Who Is This For?

The Acer Projector QH15S is perfect if you:

Want a budget home cinema setup

Live in a small space or student accommodation

Are buying your first projector

Prefer a big-screen experience over a traditional TV

It’s not for hardcore home theatre enthusiasts chasing ultra-high resolution and premium audio—but that’s not the point. This is about accessible, affordable immersion.

At this time the Acer Projector QH15S retails between R2500 and R3000.

Pros and Cons

What’s Great

Extremely affordable

Massive screen experience

Bright enough for some ambient light

Multiple connectivity options

Easy setup and portability

Where It Falls Short

Not a full smart/Android projector

Native resolution isn’t Full HD

Occasional UI lag or jitter

Built-in speaker is average

Final Verdict: Worth It?

Honestly, this projector is a surprise in the best way. For under R3,000, it delivers an experience that feels far bigger than its price tag. It’s not perfect, but it absolutely nails what it sets out to do, bringing a cinematic experience into everyday spaces without breaking the bank.

Pair it with a decent speaker setup or a streaming device, and you’ve got one of the best budget home entertainment setups you can build right now. And once you try watching movies on your ceiling? There’s no going back.

Capitec’s Fandom Force Puts Local Talent and Fans in the Spotlight

Capitec Bank has stepped into the world of Comic Con Cape Town with purpose and imagination, and a clear commitment to understanding the fans and their fandoms. The festival’s headline sponsor is not simply taking up space at the Mother City’s largest and most vibrant pop culture event. Rather, Capitec is choosing to become a part of Comic Con’s fabric by embracing those found at the very heart of its ethos: the artists who bring everything to life.

Capitec wants to connect with the Comic Con audience in a way that goes far beyond merely adding their logo to the mix. It is about gaining a deeper understanding of who Comic Con fans are and what they want from their Con experience. By engaging with the fandoms and fans that Comic Con serves in spaces designed especially for them, Capitec is choosing authenticity.

The bank’s response comes to life through the creation of the Fandom Force, a brand-new team of Capitec superheroes imagined and illustrated by up-and-coming South African comic book artist Anand Ramcheron. Rather than emulating a global aesthetic or relying on generic visuals, Capitec has chosen to invest in homegrown talent to imagine something that is rooted in the culture that Comic Con Cape Town celebrates.

Anand Ramcheron is a freelance illustrator from Durban, and a graduate of The Kubert School, a highly prestigious school focussing on cartooning and graphic art. He specializes in illustration, visual development, and comics. Anand’s talent has led to him working with prominent clients like Marvel Comics, DC, Sony Pictures Animation, Passion Pictures, and Second Dinner studios, designing covers, concept art, and trading cards for various projects.

By leaning into the superhero theme which is so central to Comic Con, Capitec reveals their deeper intention. These characters are not mascots: they are symbols of Capitec’s intention to create partnership and support creativity, and their desire to show that Capitec knows that the fans are the ultimate heroes. Capitec is coming in with force to uplift the Comic Con attendees’ experiences with endless possibilities.

By collaborating with a local artist, Capitec is making it clear that it understands the importance of representation within fandom. In Anand’s work, there is an authenticity that speaks directly to the Comic Con audience, who appreciates something created with care versus when it is simply applied as surface level marketing. Anand’s visual language is familiar, respectful, and proudly local.

Says Anand, “I was tasked with bringing Capitec Bank’s vision for their superhero campaign to life, designing characters and a cover illustration that captured their unique vibe. It was a lot of fun and also a creative challenge that allowed me to explore new styles and techniques. I hope this, in some small way, opens the door for more companies to see the value in hiring artists instead of using generative AI to solve their creative problems.”

This approach reflects a broader philosophy behind Capitec’s involvement. It is leaning into the spirit of Comic Con Cape Town, seeking ways to add genuine value to the fan experience and to integrate with them. The Fandom Force is just the beginning, and an entry point into a wider journey of engagement that aims to surprise and connect with fans on their own terms.

As the partnership unfolds over the next three years, fans can expect to see the Fandom Force evolve, appearing across activations, storytelling moments, and on-the-ground experiences that blur the line between brand and narrative. It acknowledges that at Comic Con, everyone is part of the story.

Says Comic Con Show Director Carla Massmann, “Comic Con has always been, first and foremost, about the fans. What makes this collaboration with Capitec so meaningful is the way they’ve chosen to show up by participating in a way that is authentic. From working with local artists to creating original characters, they’ve taken the time to understand what matters to our audience and to build something that genuinely adds to their experience. Their approach is about enhancing the journey for every person who attends, making it more engaging, more rewarding, and more memorable. That alignment is what turns a sponsorship into a true partnership, and it’s what will make this collaboration so special over the next few years.”

Says Ruddy Gatare, Marketing Manager Capitec Brand, “We’re incredibly excited to see this collaboration come to life, and we can’t wait for Comic Con fans to experience it and engage with the story we’ve created with Anand Ramcheron. This has been a true partnership, bringing together his unique creative perspective and our ambition to build something that feels authentic to the culture of Comic Con. Our intention is to connect with fans in a way that goes beyond presence, by contributing something meaningful to engage with, while also creating real opportunities to spotlight and support local creative talent along the way.”

In choosing to meet fans where their passions lie, Capitec is not only strengthening its presence within the event, it is helping to shape its future. And in a space defined by imagination, that may be the most powerful superpower of all.

Comic Con Cape Town has built its reputation on celebrating creativity in all its forms, from cosplay and gaming to anime, tabletop battlegrounds, film, television, and, of course, comic books and art. In 2026 the con will host 36,000 fans at the CTICC 2.

ED Programme Aims to Create Opportunities for SME’s – Uplifting Businesses through Funding & Specialised Business Development Support

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa – 10 April 2026 – Samsung in collaboration with the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (DTIC) isrunning an Equity Equivalent Investment Programme (EEIP) Service Centre campaign – an extension of last year’s initiative and a call encouraging more suitable, black-owned Service Centre enterprises to apply for participation in the Enterprise Development (ED) programme.

Last year’s campaign was a broad invitation to small and medium-sized (SME) enterprises operating within the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and Service Centre space to apply for funding. While the ICT category received a sufficient number of applications – there is a need to focus exclusively on Service Centres and encourage more eligible SMEs in this category to participate in this year’s campaign.

The 2026 campaign is trying to increase the number of service centre participants in this ED programme and is now focusing on black-owned SMEs but targeting mainly underserved provinces. It is therefore looking for skilled service centre entrepreneurs with a minimum of three (3) years experience in mobile device and/or consumer electronic repairs. The main aim of this Samsung EEIP ED programme is to assist SMEs to operate suitably funded accredited service centres in an urban or peri-urban area with sufficient retail footprint.

Samsung is well aware of the government’s NDP Vision 2030 (National Development Plan) targets and the critical role that the SME sector can play in job creation in the country. In her keynote address at the JSE SME Rise Capital Matching Initiative conference, the Minister of Small Business Development highlighted that the NDP Vision 2030 has set a target of generating 11 million jobs by 2030, with small businesses projected to account for over 9 million of those employment opportunities.

And, in order for government to achieve its ambitious employment goals – there is a need for such EEIP ED programmes aimed at ensuring sustainable growth of businesses in the SME space that will result in economic growth and lead to job creation.

Nicky Beukes, Samsung EEIP Project Manager said: “As Samsung, we understand the number of challenges that affect the growth of local SME Service Centres in the small to medium-term. This ED programme is there to ensure that we bring positive change to more eligible entrepreneurs with experience in the Service Centre market. As a company, we are committed to enhancing empowerment and ICT entrepreneurship development that will stimulate job creation. Ultimately, the aim of this year’s EEIP Service Centre campaign is to contribute to the growth of the participating service centres that will lead to job creation and economic growth.”

Some of the immediate challenges experienced by these service centre SMEs include competition resulting in reduced volumes as well as vertical integration of operations from big players. In addition, the improved quality of electronics in general – results in longer time-frames before any breakdown thereby reducing the need for repair services provided by service centres.

And, in South Africa, it is a well-known fact that the service centre industry is extremely competitive and it can take a number of years before profitability is reached. The fact is that sustainable volumes are required to ensure future success of the service centres. The funding support from this ED programme can assist service centre entrepreneurs to overcome some of these challenges.

Besides the funding element, successful participation in this year’s service centre campaign means that eligible SMEs can now have access to supply chain processes that can contribute to their repair volumes as well as specialised equipment and access to genuine parts. They also have an opportunity to receive full accreditation from an OEM and these benefits combined – can provide these small and medium enterprises with the ability to compete efficiently.

Beukes emphasised: “By participating in this campaign, you could also be one of the selected entrepreneurs with grant-funding to support operations, receive specialist business development support and have access to Samsung’s service repair network.”

How to Apply

If you are a talented service centre business with growth potential, the opportunity you have been waiting for has arrived. Samsung can help by empowering you to ignite and grow your service centre business. You could receive grant funding to capitalise the business and gain access to specialist business development support services.
