February 2026 – Choose from a vast volley of characters and modes, and face off in colourful, chaotic matches when Mario Tennis Fever launches exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2 this week on February 12th.

Mario Tennis Fever will serve up new characters, game modes and experiences. This time around there are 38 playable characters, the most in series history – including the debuts of Goomba, Nabbit, Baby Waluigi and more.

In Mario Tennis Fever, the all-new Fever Rackets allow players to serve themselves an advantage. Players can equip their characters with a selection of 30 new rackets, each with its own unique abilities. Keep a rally going to build up the Fever Gauge, then unleash a powerful Fever Shot with a special effect. With a Fever Racket in hand, players might just swing the match in their favour. Players can unleash fiery chaos on the court with the Flame Racket, summon enemies with the Pokey Racket, leap for even the toughest shots using a burst of speed from the Golden Dash Racket, and more.

Mario Tennis Fever also introduces new and returning game modes for everyone from series veterans’ to first timers. There are online modes^*1 like Online Room, a casual play mode with customisable rules, or Ranked Match where players can face challengers from all over the world. In Swing Mode, up to four players can execute each shot type using intuitive motion controls and enjoy energetic matches with friends and family. Get ready for the Trial Towers mode, where players take on a series of challenges as they make their way to the top.

And in the Adventure Mode, players embark on a junior sized journey as Baby Mario. Here, they can master the basics, learn how and when to use each shot, and practise their techniques. As they progress, players must overcome a host of challenges, battle fearsome foes, and level up their skills to help Baby Mario reclaim his former glory.

Mario Tennis Fever also supports GameShare^*2 functionality, allowing up to four players to take to the court together using just one copy of the game. Other players can join the fun via local wireless using their Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch consoles.

Players also have the opportunity to give their Nintendo Switch 2 a stylish new look. Nintendo has announced the availability of the first new coloured Joy-Con 2 controllers – Light Purple and Light Green – also arriving February 12^th. Pre-orders are available now on My Nintendo Store.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park brings new co-op and competitive gameplay to the Flower Kingdom, in addition to other new content and enhancements specifically for Nintendo Switch 2. Gather friends and family and visit Bellabel Park, a new area of the Flower Kingdom that features two large plazas filled with attractions. Team up or face off in challenges like Fast Cash: Tip Tap’s Coin Spree where you collect as many gold coins as you can, or Knock ‘em Back: Bubble Blaster where you duke it out and try to survive with the most lives intact. 

Local Multiplayer Plaza features 17 different types of attractions which you can play with up to three friends on the same system¹. The game supports GameShare² functionality, so if one player has the game, they can share it locally with up to three other players. You can also visit Game Room Plaza which supports online and local wireless play. Here, each player brings their own system to play locally or online³, joining the action on their own screen. Up to 12 friends can compete against one another in Game Room Plaza’s six additional attractions.  

Other features new to this edition of the game include:

• Toad Brigade Training Camp – In Bellabel Park you can also put your skills to the test across a wide variety of challenges set in courses from Super Mario Bros. Wonder. As you progress through the main game, you will have access to even more training courses from across the Flower Kingdom. Complete the trainings on your own or try clearing the objectives with up to three other players to rise through the rankings of the Toad Brigade and aim to become an elite explorer. 
  
   
• Assist Mode – New to the Super Mario Bros. Wonder experience? There’s plenty of help here. Turn this on while you play the courses and you’ll have the opportunity to recover quickly from unexpected falls into pits without loosing a life or avoid taking damage no matter which character you play as. 
  
   
• Familiar Friends – This new edition brings none other than Rosalina herself to the Flower Kingdom for the first time. And she’s not alone – Co-Star Luma is also along for the ride as an assist character, available when at least two people are playing together. Luma won’t take damage but can help other players out by spinning to defeat enemies and gather coins in the courses. You can even control Luma using the Nintendo Switch 2 mouse control functionality.
  
   
• And Mischievous Enemies – While Rosalina and Luma are welcome guests, you may feel differently about the Koopalings, who arrive to add a bit of chaos. After treasure hidden inside Bellabel Park is stolen by the seven Koopalings, they all flee to various worlds across the Flower Kingdom. Keep an eye out because if you stumble upon one, you’ll now have to enter their course and engage in battle with them.

Mario Tennis Fever will serve up new characters, game modes and experiences. This time around there are 38 playable characters, the most in series history – including the debuts of Goomba, Nabbit, Piranha Plant, Baby Wario and Baby Waluigi. Once you’ve selected your character, get into the game with tried-and-true techniques like Topspin, Slices and Lobs.

Get ready for the all-new Fever Rackets and swing the match in your favour. Equip your character with a selection of 30 new rackets, each with its own unique abilities – like the Ice Racket, which turns parts of the court into a slippery frozen tundra, the Mini Mushroom Racket, which shrinks your opponent to bite size and the Shadow Racket, which will have your opponent seeing double as you create a duplicate of your character. Just fill up your Fever Gauge to unleash a Fever Shot. And if you’re on the receiving end of one, don’t worry; you can try and send it back at your opponent before the shot hits the court, so they feel the effects instead.

Mario Tennis Fever also introduces new and returning game modes for everyone from pros to first timers. Get ready for Trial Towers mode, where players take on a series of challenges as you make your way to the top. There is also the new Mix It Up mode, where you can play matches with unconventional rules – like Ring Shot, where you have to hit balls with precision through rings to earn points, and Forest Court Match where you can expand the court by feeding Piranha Plants a steady diet of tennis balls. Jump into a Wonder Court Match and experience Wonder Effects inspired by Super Mario Bros. Wonder that can really keep you guessing. You can also enjoy returning modes like Tournament mode, this time enhanced with play-by-play commentary from a Talking Flower. There are also online modes^*1 like Online Room, a casual play mode with customisable rules, or Ranked Matches where you can battle other players from around the world for tennis supremacy. There is even Swing Mode where you can gently swing your Joy-Con 2 controller to hit a variety of different shots.

Mario Tennis Fever offers a new way for you to practice your techniques or learn new ones with Adventure mode. In this single-player campaign, where mysterious monsters turn Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Wario and Waluigi into babies, they must re-master their tennis skills and overcome challenges to return to normal.

The game also supports GameShare^*2 functionality, meaning if one person has Mario Tennis Fever on Nintendo Switch 2, up to three nearby players can join in using their Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch.

At last night’s The Game Awards, Nintendo was honoured with awards for Donkey Kong Bananza and Mario Kart World, both available exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2.

Donkey Kong Bananza was recognised as Best Family Game, while Mario Kart World took home the honour of Best Sports/Racing Game.

Donkey Kong Bananza is a 3D platforming action-adventure for Nintendo Switch 2 starring Donkey Kong. Harness the incredible strength of DK to smash through walls, carve tunnels with your fists, punch straight down into the ground, and even tear off chunks of terrain to swing around and throw in groundbreaking exploration. The more players smash, the more areas open up to explore. Durban’s retail landscape just received a major shake-up. Edgars — once one of South Africa’s most troubled retail names — has completed a bold relaunch of its Gateway Theatre of Shopping store under the leadership of Retailability, the Durban-based group that acquired the brand in 2020.

The relaunch signals more than a facelift. It marks Edgars’ renewed commitment to modern retail, tighter store identities, and fresh product categories designed to bring customers back into physical spaces.

A New Ground Floor: Beauty Meets Tech

One of the most notable changes is the complete redesign of the store’s ground floor. Previously a mixed-category layout, the space is now intentionally curated around cosmetics and technology — two high-demand segments that consistently draw foot traffic.

The tech section is spread across the back section of the store, but its brand lineup is surprisingly strong with dedicated stands for :

A Small Tech Section, But an Important Step for Durban

While the tech area isn’t large, the decision to include it is strategic and necessary. Durban has long suffered from a limited footprint of multi-brand tech retail spaces outside of carrier stores and stand-alone brand boutiques.

For many Durban shoppers, variety and accessibility are still major gaps in the city’s tech ecosystem. Edgars stepping into this space — even at a small scale — introduces competition, convenience, and a wider product choice for mainstream shoppers who may not visit specialist stores.

It’s a sign that Retailability recognises tech as a high-interest category that can help revitalise foot traffic and diversify Edgars’ identity moving forward.

A Star-Studded Relaunch With Honor’s CEO and DJ Tira

The relaunch event wasn’t just a ribbon-cutting. It brought notable energy to Gateway, thanks to the presence of Honor South Africa’s CEO, who joined the celebration alongside Durban’s own superstar DJ Tira.

Their appearance underscored the significance of Edgars’ renewed commitment to tech and highlighted Honor’s growing presence in South Africa’s mobile market. The collaboration also signals that major tech brands are eager to invest again in local retail spaces — a positive sign for Durban’s tech community.

A New Direction… But Who Is It Really For?

While the relaunch is undeniably impressive and the store feels fresh and modern, it also raises an important question: who exactly is Edgars trying to be now?

Under Retailability, Edgars seems to be experimenting with a hybrid identity — blending cosmetics, clothing, and now an increasingly wide mix of tech products, from smartphones and laptops to gaming consoles and drones. It’s a bold move, but also a confusing one.

Cosmetics and fashion have always made sense together. They share a customer base, a lifestyle connection, and a long retail history. But cosmetics mixed with mid-range tech — especially laptops, PS5s, drones, speakers, and creator gear — feels like Edgars is trying to be a more “upmarket ”, a one-stop-shop that captures every brand collaboration they can secure.

And that’s the challenge:
If a customer wants affordable tech, they go to PEP, Ackermans, or online.
If they want premium tech, they go directly to the brand stores or specialist retailers.
If they want fashion and beauty, Edgars has always existed — but adding tech doesn’t give them a competitive lead. It simply places them on the same playing field as everyone else, without a differentiator.

Even the placement of the tech section — tucked at the back behind cosmetics and fragrances — makes it feel less like a strategic pillar and more like an experiment the brand is still figuring out.

Durban needs more tech retail options, and Edgars stepping into that gap is valuable. But whether this new mix of perfume, clothing, and multi-brand tech will resonate with customers — or whether it muddies Edgars’ identity further — remains to be seen. The relaunch is a step forward, but the real test will be whether this hybrid concept can find a clear demographic and define who the “new Edgars” is meant to serve.

Among the various characters you’ll meet within the story are new faces like Calamo, a boisterous Korok wandering Hyrule in search of a place to put down roots, and the Mysterious Construct, who can transform and take to the skies.

You’ll also encounter more familiar figures during your adventure. Alongside Princess Zelda, you will get to know the legendary Sages, including Agraston, the worldly chief of the Gorons, the courageous Zora queen Qia, and Raphica, the quick-witted leader of the Rito.

To defend the kingdom, these heroes must form a united front against Ganondorf’s invasion. By having two characters work together, you can unleash powerful Sync Strikes to give yourself an edge in combat. Different character combinations will produce different kinds of Sync Strikes, such as granting characters buffs or creating constructs you can control. Trying out different pairs can lead to devastating blows to the opposition.

Starting October 28th, Donkey Kong Bananza will feature monthly in-game events on Nintendo Switch 2. Players who own the paid DLC*¹ DK Island + Emerald Rush and have finished the main game’s story can participate in limited-time events to earn exclusive in-game statues.

During each event period, players can tackle a special Emerald Rush challenge that shakes up the usual formula by setting some fixed conditions, such as the Emerald Perks they can obtain from fossils and Banandium Gems. When selecting an Emerald Perk from three choices, the options presented to players will remain the same during each run.

Achieving the challenge’s target scores will be rewarded with certain statues and Banandium Chips, which can be exchanged for standard statues. Players can retry the challenge as many times as they’d like within the event period.

The first event, “Chip Fever”, will take place from October 28^th at 10:00 SAST until November 4^th at 9:59 SAST During this time, players can smash their way through DK Island for a chance to collect statues of Enguarde and Kong Bananza.

Donkey Kong Bananza is an all-new 3D platforming game available exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2. DK punches, grabs, tosses, climbs, smashes and flexes his strength as he explores the depths of this wild action adventure together with his new friend Pauline and sets course for the Planet Core, which legend says has the power to grant your heart’s desire.

The launch kicks off the Super Mario Bros. 40^th anniversary in style, with both gravity-defying adventures now featuring enhanced visuals and other new additions

October 2^nd, 2025 – Are you ready for another trip through the cosmos on Starship Mario? Relive your first meeting with Rosalina and the Lumas, once again experience the thrill of partnering with Yoshi, or even embark on your very first mission to save the galaxy from Bowser with the return of Super Mario Galaxy and the debut of Super Mario Galaxy 2 for Nintendo Switch (also playable on Nintendo Switch 2).

The classic gravity-defying adventures now feature enhanced visuals upgraded for both game consoles, as well some new additions – get ready to discover brand-new chapters to the in-game Storybooks and learn even more about Rosalina and the Lumas.

Alongside sharper resolution and the additional Storybook elements, these new versions of the classic Wii titles allow you to explore a new soundtrack mode, including newly added tracks, as well as gameplay improvements like Assist Mode (which gives you additional health and recovery) and AutoSave.

Use button, stick and motion controls adapted to the Joy-Con and Joy-Con 2 controllers from the original Wii versions to jump, glide, swing and explore as you collect Power Stars and power-up items including Mushrooms that bestow powerful, temporary abilities like flying, floating and more.

A free update will be available on Nintendo Switch 2 that adds 4K resolution support^*1 for both titles. While Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be available combined as Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 in a physical version, each title will be available digitally on Nintendo eShop.

Furthermore, two amiibo figures for Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 are launching next year. Mario & Luma can be scanned in either game to receive a Life Mushroom, and Rosalina & Lumas will give you a 1-Up Mushroom. These two larger-than-standard size amiibo will be available on April 2^nd, 2026.

An illustrated hardcover edition of Rosalina’s Storybook, featuring the original art and story from Super Mario Galaxy^*2, will also be released. More details will be revealed in the future.

Super Mario Bros. 40^th Anniversary

In last month’s Nintendo Direct presentation, Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto announced various activities to commemorate the 40^th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., which first launched in Japan on September 13^th, 1985. In addition to today’s release of Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2, Mario fans have plenty to look forward to in the coming year, including The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, releasing worldwide beginning April 2026, and new games for Nintendo Switch 2 such as Mario Tennis Fever, launching on February 12^th 2026, and Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, launching in spring 2026. As part of the Super Mario Bros. 40^th anniversary, Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 launch today for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
