Introducing the New LG SolarDOM™: One Appliance. Endless Possibilities
Microwave. Oven. Grill. Air Fry. Steam. All-in-one.

Somewhere in the average South African kitchen, an air fryer, oven, and a microwave are doing jobs that a single appliance can now do at the same time, on the same countertop, with way less electricity usage. LG’s answer to that redundancy is the new SolarDOM™, and it isn’t especially concerned about hurting anyone’s feelings.

LG Electronics South Africa has launched the new 38L SolarDOM™, the first major overhaul of the line in more than a decade and the first version to add a dedicated Air Fry mode. It joins microwave, grill, oven, steam and defrost functions in one 38-litre cavity, run through LG’s Charcoal Lighting Grill and a top-and-bottom dual heater system to deliver evenly crisp, golden results on both sides with no flipping required.

“We didn’t build this to win an argument against an existing air fryer,” says Carol Guedes, CE Head of Sales at LG Electronics South Africa. “It exists to make the case for not needing one in the first place, and everything else that’s crowding the counter alongside it.”

What one appliance can now do

The Charcoal Lighting Grill uses infrared heat rather than a conventional element, which LG says cuts cooking time by 30% and energy use by 40% compared with its earlier sheath-heater models – a meaningful jump from the roughly 20% energy saving claimed on the outgoing SolarDOM™. The Air Fry mode uses that same heat system to crisp food with little to no added oil, while the top and bottom dual heaters mean a roast chicken or tray of vegetables cooks from both directions simultaneously, instead of needing a manual turn partway through. LG’s signature round cavity carries over from the previous generation, distributing heat evenly and removing the corners where food typically catches or burns.

Fifty-seven ways to avoid reading a recipe

The new SolarDOM™ connects to the LG ThinQ™ app and includes 57 automatic cooking programmes, covering everything from a weekday defrost to a Sunday roast, without the user needing to set time, temperature or mode manually.

The new LG SolarDOM™ will be available through LG.com/za and selected retailers.

LG’s new flagship TV is about as thick as a stack of bank cards and launching in SA

Stack thirteen bank cards on top of each other and you have a rough sense of how thin LG’s newest flagship television for South Africa really is. There is no cable running to the screen, no visible port, and once it is mounted, barely a shadow between the panel and the wall behind it.

LG Electronics South Africa has confirmed the local launch of the OLED evo W6, the latest version of its Wallpaper TV line, in 77-inch and 83-inch sizes. Measured at 9.95mm in thickness, the panel sits flush against the wall rather than in front of it. Every cable, console and decoder is routed elsewhere in the room through a separate wireless box – the TV itself connects to nothing.

“South African lounges have spent years trying to hide the technology in them, not show it off,” says Carol Guedes, Consumer Electronics Sales Head at LG Electronics South Africa. “The W6 takes that further than we have before – the screen goes up, and the clutter that usually comes with it doesn’t.”

Where the cables actually go

The W6’s Zero Connect Box handles every connection a television would normally need directly: HDMI ports, decoders, game consoles and soundbars all plug into the box instead of the screen. From there, it transmits 4K video and audio wirelessly to the display, visually lossless, from up to 10 metres away. In practice, that means the box can sit inside a cabinet or in another room entirely, while the screen itself carries nothing but the picture.

Built for bright afternoons and dark evenings

The panel uses LG’s Hyper Radiant Color Technology, running on its Alpha 11 AI Processor Gen3, and is certified Reflection-Free Premium by Intertek – independent verification that picture quality holds up in a sunlit room as well as a dark one. It also supports 4K at up to 165Hz, with NVIDIA G-SYNC compatibility and AMD FreeSync Premium, for households where the same screen needs to handle a rugby test on Saturday and a gaming session on Sunday night.

A smarter screen, within limits

Running LG’s latest webOS platform, the W6 uses Voice ID to recognise individual users and adjust recommendations accordingly, alongside AI features and an AI Concierge for content discovery. Google Gemini integration is also built in – subject to local availability at launch. The set is protected by LG Shield, which applies real-time scanning and automatic security updates for up to five years through LG’s Re:New upgrade programme.

The launch lands at a point where LG’s OLED TV business has led global unit sales for 13 consecutive years, according to market analyst Omdia, and where the W6 itself was named Best TV of CES 2026 by UK review outlet HDTVTest, citing its picture quality, design and innovation. The LG OLED evo W6 will be available in South Africa in 77-inch and 83-inch sizes through selected LG retail partners and the LG Online Store

Hosted by Jessica Nkosi, the show follows six prominent figures as they orchestrate surprise 24-hour space makeovers for the charitable organisations and mentors closest to their hearts.

The transformations showcase LG’s latest premium innovations – including the 100-inch LG QNED evo AI TV, InstaView refrigerators, QuadWash dishwashers, and DualCool+ Air Conditioners – demonstrating how smart technology practically elevates community care environments.

The series debuts on 11 June, marking a shift toward emotionally resonant, localised storytelling that highlights the spirit of Ubuntu.

JOHANNESBURG, Wednesday, 10 June 2026 – LG Electronics South Africa (LG) has announced the upcoming launch of Make Life Good, a heartwarming original reality series produced in partnership with MultiChoice, a Canal+ company. Debuting on 11 June on Mzansi Magic, the series shifts the traditional advertising narrative to focus on the powerful, real-life human connections enabled by technology within the South African context.

Built around the concept of gratitude and the spirit of Ubuntu, Make Life Good is hosted by celebrated television personality Jessica Nkosi. The show follows six prominent “Achievers” as they team up with LG to deliver a deeply personal thank you to the organisations and community leaders who support vulnerable South Africans. These celebrated personalities include trailblazing mountaineer Saray Khumalo, football legend William Okpara, entrepreneur and author Thandi Mavata, data & analytics executive Esther Munyi, Pan-African PR executive Perpetual Kendi, and award-winning filmmaker Adze Ugah.

In each episode, an Achiever secretly orchestrates a high-pressure, 24-hour facility makeover for their chosen cause. These makeovers are specifically designed to solve practical daily challenges for the volunteers and beneficiaries using the spaces.

Utilising LG’s latest premium innovations, the building and design teams elevate these environments to ensure they are cleaner, more efficient, and more supportive. Kitchens and food preparation stations at facilities like LIV Lanseria and Botshabelo Babies Home are transformed with 900L InstaView™ Door-in-Door refrigerators and 14 Place QuadWash™ dishwashers with TrueSteam™ to handle high-volume community feeding schemes efficiently. Youth hubs and training centres, such as the Bold Men Skills Program and The House Groups, receive 77-inch LG OLED evo AI G5 4K 165Hz Smart TVs, 100 inch LG QNED evo AI QNED86 MiniLED 4K 120Hz Smart TVs, and immersive soundbars to create dynamic, technology-driven learning and entertainment environments. Meanwhile, the heavy-duty 13Kg Front Loader with AI DD™ & Steam+™ in Black Finish and LG Heat Pump Dryer are installed at the Kensington Secondary School soccer programme to clean and maintain sports kits for young athletes.

Pennileigh Naidu, Head of Corporate Marketing and PR at LG Electronics South Africa, explains the strategy behind the campaign: “The ‘Life’s Good’ philosophy is rooted in the belief that technology should serve people, making daily environments more supportive, efficient, and connected. Collaborating with Mzansi Magic and these incredible achievers allows us to do exactly what our technology was designed for. We are celebrating South Africans who uplift their communities, while showing how our smart innovations can practically assist them in doing the hard work of creating hope every single day.”

Phil Jung, CEO of Middle East and Africa Region, LG Electronics, echoes this message: “At LG, our ‘Life’s Good’ philosophy is built on the belief that technology should serve humanity, making our daily lives more convenient, connected, and meaningful. With the ‘Make Life Good’ series, we wanted to move beyond product specifications and celebrate the authentic, emotional human stories of our region.”

The series provides a renewed chance for these organisations to serve more people in need, restore dignity, and continue changing lives without the burden of failing tools and appliances, or inadequate facilities.

“It’s reality TV with purpose. We see it as a celebration of compassion and the unique Mzansi belief that when one rises, they should thrive to lift others as well,” says Mbali Ntuli, GE Head of Unscripted Content at MultiChoice, a Canal+ company. “We are honoured to be at the centre of a project that is a reminder that even a small act of kindness can transform an entire community.”

Tune in to Mzansi Magic (DStv Channel 161) for Make Life Good, airing from 11 June at 19:00, and witness the power of collective action. The series will also air on Maisha Magic East (13 June at 19:30), Maisha Magic Plus (14 June at 20:30), and Africa Magic Family (13 June at 17:30).

Humour and soccer collide in the new SuperSport Social Corner powered by LG webOS

JOHANNESBURG, June 2026 – LG Electronics has partnered with SuperSport to launch a brand-new feature show, SuperSport Social Corner, to capture the uniquely and authentic South African flavour of soccer match-days outside of the stadium. The show is designed to bring soccer fans together through humour, shared banter, and premium home entertainment.

Broadcasting on Fridays at 21:55 on SuperSport Premier League (Channel 203), the show is powered by LG’s proprietary webOS smart TV platform. It explores the lively, opinionated, and highly social nature of soccer culture in South Africa, illustrating how the right technology can turn any living room into the ultimate match-day fan zone.

The concept behind the show is a comedic social experiment. It follows the journey of a soccer enthusiast whose quiet, individual match viewing quickly escalates into a crowded, high-energy neighbourhood gathering. As friends, neighbours, and eventually prominent sports personalities crowd into the lounge, the show highlights how a high-quality television does not just improve how you watch the game – it fundamentally changes who you watch it with.

“Soccer in South Africa is a shared ritual that thrives on emotion, community, and friendly rivalry,” says Mr. Taehung Kim, President at LG Electronics South Africa. “Through our partnership with SuperSport on the Social Corner, we wanted to capture that unique energy and give it the showtime it deserves. Our webOS platform is designed to be the gateway to these shared experiences, making it effortless for households to connect, find their favourite sports content, and enjoy the matches together.”

Throughout the show’s run, viewers will see how different smart features on the webOS platform enhance the viewing experience. These include Sports Alerts, which keep fans updated on live scores and kick-off times even while watching other channels, and AI-powered picture and sound optimisations that replicate the roar of a stadium within the home. Whether it is utilising voice control to search for highlights or relying on the rich colours of QNED technology to debate a referee’s decision, the platform serves as the central hub of the match-day experience.

By focusing on relatable, human-centric scenarios and light-hearted neighbourhood banter, the show shifts the focus from technical jargon to real-world enjoyment. It positions the television not merely as a household appliance, but as an essential gathering point for family, friends, and communities.

SuperSport Social Corner airs every Friday at 21:55 on the SuperSport Premier League Channel 203, running from May through to July 2026.

LG Electronics South Africa’s latest research shows that modern air conditioning is now the most cost-effective way to heat a home. As South Africans prepare for the 2026 winter, the data reveals a significant price gap between traditional gas heating and inverter technology – with aircons being up to 9 times more affordable than using gas.

Many households still believe that gas heaters are the cheaper option. Rising fuel costs and the high efficiency of heat-pump technology have changed the economics of home heating, though.

The high cost of gas heating

The traditional 3-panel gas heater is a common sight in South African homes. However, despite its generally lower upfront costs, it is an expensive way to stay warm on a running basis. The price of LPG gas has reached R66.24 per gallon or about R34 per kilogram. The hourly running cost then comes in at approximately R16.56.

LG’s latest data compares this to a 12 000 BTU DualCool air conditioner. In heating mode, this unit uses an average of 0.66 kW of electricity per hour. Even with the current electricity price hikes, the savings are massive.

In Johannesburg, where electricity costs on average R2.85 per kWh, the LG unit costs only R1.88 per hour to run. In Cape Town, with a higher average tariff of R4.25 per kWh, the cost is R2.81 per hour.

Calculating the monthly savings

When we look at a typical winter month, the financial impact becomes even more obvious. If a household runs a gas heater for 4 hours a day, they will use it for 120 hours in a month.

In Johannesburg, running a gas heater for a month costs R1 987.20. Running an LG air conditioner for the same results costs just R225.6. This is a monthly saving of R1 761.60. The aircon is nearly nine times cheaper to run than gas.

In Cape Town, the LG air conditioner costs R337.20 to run for a month. This saves the household R1 650.00 every month. For the budget-conscious consumer, these savings can be very impactful. (This cost saving may increase further as electricity tariffs continue to rise.)

Why inverter technology is different

The reason for these savings is the LG Dual Inverter Compressor. Traditional heaters and older air conditioners either run at full power or turn off completely. This wastes a lot of energy.

The LG inverter compressor is different. It constantly adjusts its speed to maintain the desired temperature. It never turns off, so it avoids the energy spikes that occur during start-up. This technology allows the unit to use only the exact amount of power needed to keep a room warm.

Beyond the cost, there are health and safety benefits. Gas heaters can reduce indoor air quality and create a fire risk. LG units, such as in the ArtCool range, use the Plasmaster™ Ionizer+ to sterilise the air. They remove odours and harmful particles while providing consistent warmth across the entire room.

Built for South African conditions

Energy efficiency is only part of the story. Appliances in South Africa must be durable. Our power grid is often unstable, and our coastal air is corrosive.

LG has engineered its units to handle these realities. The Volt Care system protects the internal electronics from sudden voltage fluctuations. This ensures the unit keeps running even when the power supply is inconsistent. Additionally, the Gold Fin™ coating protects the heat exchanger from rust and corrosion. This is especially important for households and organisations in coastal cities like Cape Town.

Making the smart choice this winter

As the first cold fronts of 2026 arrive, South Africans are looking for ways to stay warm without breaking the bank. The data shows that the larger initial investment in a high-quality air conditioner pays for itself through lower running costs.

Staying warm this winter does not have to be expensive. By choosing efficient technology, households can protect their budgets from rising energy costs while enjoying a cleaner and safer home environment.

Enough to cover a rugby field in 3-meter-deep waste: LG partnership reaches 200-ton recycling milestone

As we celebrate Earth Day, LG South Africa’s recycling partnership has seen nearly 200 tons of polystyrene – an amount equivalent to covering a rugby field in 2.7 meters of the waste material – recycled in Germiston, Gauteng.

This is a major milestone for the partnership between LG South Africa and recycling organisation Circular Energy, which has diverted almost 19 000 m³ of expanded polystyrene (EPS) from landfills since the launch of a new recycling machine in 2025.

The collaboration addresses the environmental challenge of polystyrene packaging, heating and compressing the material at the plant for reuse in high-end interior products, such as wall panelling and decorative mouldings.

Circular Energy manages a range of LG’s end-of-life products as well as its polystyrene waste under Extended Producer Responsibility Regulations.

EPS waste is lightweight and takes up large volumes of space per kilogram, making it difficult to recycle. When it ends up in landfills, the material takes upwards of 500 years to decompose.

Polystyrene still remains an unavoidable material in packaging due to its protective qualities and cost-effectiveness. To address the environmental challenges posed by the bare minimum use of this material, LG selected Circular Energy as their long term partner.

According to studies done by the United Nations and WWF, around 122 million tons of general solid waste is produced in South Africa every year. Only 10% is currently recycled. Until recently, EPS waste was not part of the 10%-figure.

But LG believes in creating technology that benefits both people and the planet. For LG, true progress requires collaboration, and that’s why they pursue sustainability-focused partnerships that are essential to responsible progress.

LG is now also launching its own logistics and technical setup services for premium products in Gauteng – furthering its direct involvement in the journey of its products from factory to customer.
LG Electronics launches premium same-time delivery and installation service in Gauteng

LG Electronics South Africa is launching its own logistics and technical setup services for premium products in Gauteng.

LG Electronics South Africa is redefining the standard for consumer logistics with the launch of its new premium Delivery and Installation Service, currently available in select areas of Gauteng.

This service is designed to streamline the customer journey, representing a strategic shift from product sales to comprehensive service experiences that prioritise reliability and peace of mind. At the heart of the initiative is a rapid delivery and installation model. Customers can now move from purchase to a fully functional product in a single interaction, removing the delays and coordination challenges associated with separate appointments.

A defining feature of this service is LG’s move to manage the entire workflow internally. From transportation to final setup, every stage is handled by dedicated LG teams. This vertical integration affirms their commitment to accountability, specialised product care, and consistent standards of service. For LG, the slogan “Service, Our promise” keeps guiding new offerings to continuously put the customer first in all their work.

The new process is initiated immediately following a purchase on the LG online store. Customers who opt for installation are contacted within 24 hours to confirm logistics and any specific site requirements. In many instances, delivery occurs as soon as the next day. Upon arrival, products are offloaded, unboxed, inspected, and tested in one visit.

Certified LG technicians perform the technical installation, whether it involves mounting televisions, connecting appliances to water systems, or configuring smart connectivity via the LG ThinQ app. For home entertainment products, the service includes internet configuration, HDMI device integration, and a guided demonstration of core features. Home appliance installations similarly feature essential plumbing or electrical connections and functional walkthroughs to ensure users are comfortable with their new technology immediately.

This launch reaffirms LG’s commitment to managing the end-to-end customer experience in a market where convenience and service quality are primary drivers of consumer needs. By integrating logistics, technical expertise, and customer support, LG is positioning itself as a comprehensive experience provider. This shift also builds upon longstanding consumer-focused services like LG BestCare – its own dedicated, comprehensive customer service and maintenance program, offering expert repairs, annual maintenance, and genuine spare parts for home appliances and electronics.

The new service is currently limited to Gauteng, but LG continues to invest in the infrastructure required to support its “Life’s Good” brand promise. This expansion aims to provide not only innovative hardware but also the service frameworks that enhance everyday life.

The end of Laundry-day stress: LG’s new powerful 20kg washing machine takes the hassle out of weekend washing

In the hierarchy of household chores, laundry has always been the endurance athlete. It’s a slow-motion marathon of sorting, washing, and hanging that can easily hijack an entire Saturday. But LG Electronics South Africa is attempting to turn that marathon into a sprint with its latest South African launch: a range of front-loaders so large they make the standard 7kg machine look like a toy.

The headliners are a 15kg and a massive 20kg model, finished in a sleek Essence Graphite that looks more like a piece of high-end dark-room tech than a traditional appliance. The message is: why do four loads of laundry when you can do one?

Size matters (and so does speed)

For most South African households, the jump to 20kg is transformative. We aren’t just talking about fitting more socks; we’re talking about the ability to wash a king-size duvet, the week’s bedding, and probably a few stray scatter cushions in a single go.

Usually, “big” means “slow,” but LG has kitted these out with TurboWash™. By using four 3D nozzles to spray water directly onto the fabric, the machine manages a deep clean in significantly less time. For a standard 3kg load, you’re looking at a cycle under 40 minutes – roughly the time it takes to watch an episode of whatever you’re currently binging.

Brains behind the bulk

People are often cynical about “AI” being “slapped” on everything from toothbrushes to toasters, but in the laundry room, it has a job to do. LG’s AI DD™ (Artificial Intelligence Direct Drive) weighs your laundry, but, more importantly, it “feels” it.

The motor uses sensors to detect the softness and texture of the fabrics in the drum. It then picks the optimal washing pattern from 20 000 different data points to ensure your R2 000 designer hoodie doesn’t come out looking like it’s been through a rock tumbler.

“The goal with this new high-capacity range was to remove the guesswork,” says Carol Guedes, Consumer Electronics Sales Head at LG Electronics South Africa. “When you are dealing with 15 or 20kg of laundry, the weight alone can be hard on fabrics if the drum motion isn’t intelligent. AI DD™ ensures that whether you’re washing bulk towels or delicate linens, the machine adapts its movement to protect the fibres.”

High-pressure hygiene

Since we all became amateur virologists a few years ago, hygiene tech has become a staple. These new units include LG’s Steam™ technology, which uses high-temperature vapour to blast away 99.9% of allergens and dust mites. It’s particularly useful for school uniforms and gym gear that usually requires a “burn it with fire” approach to get truly clean.

The verdict

South Africans are tired of the “batch wash” lifestyle. By combining massive capacity with AI-driven fabric protection and high-speed cycles, LG’s washing machine is basically selling your Saturday back to you.

The intersection of ancestral tradition, community and technology took centre stage at the recent Investec Cape Town Art Fair, where LG Electronics South Africa partnered with multidisciplinary artist Chidiri Nwaubani to present the immersive installation, Mbari Memorial: What Cannot Be Returned Must Be Reconceived.

Held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), the fair was guided by the theme “Listen,” a prompt that Nwaubani answered through a radical exploration of Nigerian Igbo culture and collective creativity. At the heart of the installation were reimagined ogene gongs – traditional instruments used to summon communities – transformed into electrically conductive sensors. By completing the circuit through simultaneous touch, visitors “activated” the reimagined gongs to generate unique digital sculptures displayed as a form of augmented reality on LG OLED screens.

The collaboration highlighted how technology can serve as a unifying conduit rather than a cold tool. By incorporating LG OLED technology as part of the artistic medium, Nwaubani moved the narrative from merely reclaiming stolen artefacts to resurrecting them. Unlike static museum objects, the digital forms generated were variable and temporary, mirroring the Igbo Mbari tradition where sacred structures were built collectively and left to decay naturally as a reminder of life’s fragility.

“This installation was a direct challenge to the traditional ‘do not touch’ museum mandate,” says Chidi Nwaubani. “By using LG’s OLED screens as a canvas, we transformed digital artefacts from static museum pieces into living, variable entities created through communal touch. Presenting this work on African soil was a visceral homecoming, asserting that our culture lives on through our collective power to recreate and reconceive what was once lost.”

For Nwaubani’s innovative multidisciplinary work in leveraging technology to play a role in his installation at the Art Fair, he was also awarded the coveted Tomorrows/Today Prize, supported by Fiera Milano Exhibitions Africa. Tomorrows/Today is a specially curated section to celebrate and highlight works of rising innovators in the art world.

Nwaubani’s work has already appeared at many major international platforms, including the Venice Biennale, and he is also the founder of Looty, a platform advocating for the return of looted African artefacts through digital storytelling.

For LG, the partnership represented a commitment to supporting the arts on the African continent while showcasing the versatility of its display technology. The deep blacks and vibrant colours of the OLED panels provided the necessary depth to make the digital sculptures feel integrated into physical reality, blurring the lines between body and archive.

“At LG, we believe that technology should serve as a bridge between people and their stories,” says Dimakatso Molaba, TV/Audio Product Marketing Specialist at LG Electronics South Africa. “Collaborating with Chidi Nwaubani allowed us to demonstrate how technology transcends traditional uses to even become an interactive medium for cultural storytelling. It was an honour to have a part to play with Chidi’s masterful artistic storytelling and see our screens help bring the spirit of the Mbari tradition to life.”
